    Daniel Regner, Catonsville, Maryland, 2011

The Baltimore School
Daniel Regner’s recent work is really worth checking out. Much of it is shot at night, mostly with an old 6x6 Yashica. There is a post-“The Wire” group of Baltimore-area photographers who I first came to follow through Patrick Joust. It’s a unique situation, because mainstream media portraits of a region are often so shallow, with a lot of inaccuracies to correct. Instead The Baltimore School’s work is additive, good photography can extend good television drama. I watched the full 60-some hours of “The Wire” - I should be tired of the place, seen everything, yet these photographers with their neighborhood landscapes, portraits and long exposure night shots, offer so much more.
