1. Raymond Meeks, from pretty girls wander, 2011

I’ve recently been able to look at this book in person. Meeks’ work is a good example of why artist photobooks are one of the essential art mediums right now. The book is at a moment of radical change in the digital era, yet a book of photographs is one of the best reasons why print will always be with us. When you experience his determined editing, his small choice of images; it has the feeling of Malick’s “Tree of Life” - in condensed time. Meeks makes his books himself, the objects make the web feel like simulation. He brings you inside one of those plexiglass tunnels in an aquarium, outside a plankton of images.
