Tumblr released their "content source" feature today. This adds the link to the original source of a photograph and fixes the indented mess, but the Tumblr blogger still has to add the text.
Here’s how I do it:
name of photographer, title or subject (in italics), location, date 
I’m not a professional curator or librarian. I use this format based on what I’m curious about when I land on a photo. I encourage everyone to spend the extra minute to add attribution. The photographers are not getting paid to have their work republished here, the least we can do is to give them the respect of keeping their name on their photographs.
Attribution will make your blog more interesting. And, if you do this for a while, the accumulation of random learning will make you more interesting.
